Happy National Cat Day Furbaby G!!!! We are so lucky we found you, you are one handsome and awesome cat!!!
Although if he could talk he would probably say well duh, I am awesome every day and you are lucky I allow you to worship me, please get my food out of this humming box meNOW!!!!
So I’m in a funk today. Maybe it’s because I’m working on stuff for a cancer benefit fundraiser for my nephew, who is 18 and WTF universe haven’t they had enough sadness in their lives, and it’s so unfair and why him????
Or maybe because I’m in a strange place with strange noises so I couldn’t sleep. Or maybe it was that I had the bed to myself instead of being on the edge next to this and I’m not used to that. No scratch that kitty needs to be comfy. 🙂
Or maybe it was the totally unexpected blast from the past who made a donation and now it’s a little weird and I’m feeling like I’m obsessed to know what he’s been up to. And feeling like I’m doing something wrong even though I told Mr. G.
So I take a break from my Scrappy place and do what everyone does when they’re in a funk, read my previous blog letters to my mother in heaven. :O um. What? Why? So now I’m crying and sad and reminded it’s soon June and her birthday!!!
But at least I was inspired to write and give you something to read on this muggy Saturday. And I got to see my favorite kitty and the best rescue cat ever that I miss while I wrote. 🙂 what doesn’t everyone miss their cat when they’re away? What about my human family? Oh yeah. Oh look at the time, time to eat. Or scrap!
I don’t remember stopping at the Cat Store today but since it’s raining I guess I won’t take him back.
I took Bird with me to the pet store tonight. He had fun catching cats on the “fishing rod.”
Happy national cat day!
Furbaby G being aloof on his day
Wednesday nights I volunteer at the SPCA’s satellite adoption center in a pet store. I do a quick check to make sure everyone looks healthy and then let the cats out of their cages to play while I clean the cages and feed them.
Usually they like to claim the highest perch on the cat tree, or sit on the log book as I’m trying to read the past week’s updates. But lately I have this:
It’s kind of hard to clean litter box scoopers when there is a cat sitting in the sink, who is not bothered when the water is turned on. 🙂 When I filled their water bowls he would put his paw in the stream and then lick it off. He stayed in there for an hour. Who am I to judge how he spends his free time? 🙂
I had a pretty rough Monday. But then Furbaby G decided all I needed was a snuggle. He plopped down across my lap, rubbed his face all over my hands and purred like crazy for about half an hour while I played with nail polish strips.
Bad mood gone. 🙂
Even cats like to “hold hands.” Awww. 🙂
So before Furbaby G joined our family, I wrote about how Bird wanted a turtle and how Mr. G wisely decided not to grant this wish before I got my cat.
So Furbaby G has wedged himself firmly in our hearts and has already trained Bird to play with him on demand. He will sit and stare at Bird and then Bird will grab a string or peacock feather and run around with him for several minutes.
So with all this I thought that Bird was satisfied with a cat as a pet and had forgotten about getting a turtle. Good thing no one bet me that he hadn’t!
Last week I took Bird to daycare so sick Mr. G could get a little more sleep and he blurts out, “which takes more care Mommy….a turtle or a bunny?” So quick thinker that I am said, “Oh well they BOTH take a LOT of care!” Surprisingly he let it drop but I’m sure that little engineer’s mind is going full-speed trying to figure out which one actually does require more care so he can be justified in asking for the other. Sigh. We’re screwed.
If you’ve been paying attention, you might remember that I mentioned we brought Furbaby G home 2 weeks ago and it was about half a second until we were all head over heels for this cat! He is truly like no other cat we’ve ever had.
But it hasn’t all been unicorns and rainbows. No no, he hasn’t gotten into anything or done anything he shouldn’t other than stand on his back feet at the kitchen table to try and snatch our dinner out from under us, and learned that Mr. G now has a squirt bottle ready to fire to stop that habit. Though really I can’t think of a single thing that would make me give him up, because he is just so stinking CUTE and AWESOME and makes our house a home again. 🙂
No, the problem comes from the main subject of this blog and her brother who now are fighting over who gets to play with Furbaby G and with what, and for how long before the other gets a chance because it’s not fair that they had to wait 2 seconds to fuss over him.
Bird appropriately likes to have Furbaby G play with the feathers on a stick that drives most cats crazy because they think a real bird is flopping around in front of them! Peanut prefers to have him play with a catnip mouse, which drives cats crazy because the mouse looks ridiculous but makes them feel good! And it is strictly forbidden for Bird to try and entice the cat away from Peanut with the feathers, although of course it is completely acceptable for her to use the mouse to get the cat away from Bird.
Who did I play with a minute ago?
I really never thought I would ever say, “You know, we’re going to have this cat for years and years, there is plenty of time in those years for both of you to play with him, and in equal durations over the long-term!” Which of course they weren’t listening to me because 1. I used a big word at least one of them hasn’t heard yet so therefore I must be lecturing, and 2. because they are each waving their hands around to make their toys move in a lifelike manner hoping to interest Furbaby G. But unfortunately for them it was a fish that drew his interest…the bag of Ocean Fish and Crab flavored snacks that Mr. G was shaking!
But don’t worry, they fight over who gets to give him a treat too but that’s a blog for another day! 🙂
